Its a mad mad world

We all know that song, by Gary Jules "mad world" Most people hear that song and immediately think of Donnie Darko. But now when I hear that song I have a new affiliation for it. Last week at work (I know I haven't blogged for a while srry) we kept getting complaints from truckers that there was a woman walking around the parking lot pounding on truck doors. She wasn't alone, she had a baby with her. She was offering her "services".

Now I am not condoning that prostitution is a good thing. What I am saying is that I guess I can understand why people do it. Although there are better options out there if you need help I get why women, and men sell themselves. Like I said, I do not think it is a positive thing, or that I would ever do it, but I am saying I kinda understand. HOWEVER this lady the other night, taking her baby with her truck to truck. That crosses that invisible line. That is very wrong. It is one thing to have to use prostitution as a living, but to bring you own baby into that kinda of dangerous situation is repulsive. Short handed Oreo and I were sent to the lot to track down this woman. We were told the last truck she got into, we went to that truck but she was no longer there. The whole time Oreo is driving me around the lot he is cussing up a storm on how disturbing this is. I couldn't agree more. That night I wanted to puke. The thought of that poor child being in the truck with that, and who knows if it was just laying there, who knows what was going on inside, that though makes my whole stomach do flip flops, that are not good. We never did track her down. We kept getting complaints but we were so short handed there wasn't much we could do. We kept our eyes out for her, we knew who she was. We never did see her again.

My night didn't end there. Later, right before shift change this kid who looked to be about 9 to 11 years old walks in. He was looking for some gum. Banana shows him where it is and walks away. The kid walks up to my counter buys the gum and leaves. I noticed the kid had something on his lip, but honestly I didn't care enough to think about what it was. After he left Cuffs says to me, was that kid chewing? Banana walks over and she goes yea I noticed that too, i think he was. I was standing there in shock, what he had in his mouth and what was on his lip was chewing tobacco! The kid was at least 9 years old! What is happening in this world? Is this what our parents and especially our grandparents think when they see all the kids my age doing drugs and smoking? Has the next generation already started on these bad habits and I am actually noticing it? I cant help but wonder about this young guy, if he is chewing tobacco what are the chances he is smoking cigs or maybe worse? What else does this 9 year old and all his friends do?

That night was a window that I have never really looked through before. I was shocked by what I saw. It was clear as day, not frost diluting my sight, no steam blocking my view. This is what is really happening in the world. I can imagine what it will look like in 10 year.
